Colker helps law students, lawyers, and other recognize and understand the US federal and state laws protecting the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community from discrimination. She is thinking particularly of students taking courses related to sexual orientation, sexuality, and gender, but also students studying civil rights issues in other areas. Also, she says, the book could help lawyers, educators, employers, members of the LGBTQ+ community and others who have direct or indirect interests in these significant federal and state laws, either on their own behalf of on behalf of those they represent or work with.
