Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (Title IX) prohibits discrimination on the basis of sex in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. All K12 public school districts and all public colleges and universities, as well as most private colleges, receive federal funding, meaning these schools must comply with Title IXs statutory requirements and regulations. The Department of Education (ED) has defined the scope of sex discrimination under Title IX to include sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination. This book contains an introduction to Title IX and its relevant exceptions and updated regulations.
