This textbook on medium- and heavy-duty truck service presents information at an entry-level technician level, designed to be used in a vocational setting that has access to training equipment, tools, and vehicles for hands-on practice. (A lab manual is available separately, with lab sheets and a lab project for each chapter.) The material in the text corresponds with six of the eight "Medium and Heavy Duty Truck Technician" ASE certification tests: drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, heating and cooling, and preventive maintenance and inspection. Early chapters cover the trucking industry, professional certifications, safety, and equipment. Coverage then turns to each functional system of the vehicle. Further chapters provide instructions and troubleshooting tips for diagnosis and repair of common problems in major makes and manufacturers. The text's pedagogical features include chapter objectives, service tips and cautions, recommended websites, and review questions. The text contains a wealth of b&w photos of equipment, along with many schematics and diagrams. A companion website contains color photos and material for instructors. The most complete visual guide to servicing medium- and heavy-duty truck systems

Written by an expert with decades of experience as an automotive and diesel technician and instructor,Truck and Trailer Systems offers comprehensive information on medium- and heavy-duty truck service. The book begins by discussing the trucking industry, professional certifications, safety, tools, and measuring equipment. Then, each system is thoroughly covered--from electrical and lighting to brakes and transmissions.

Factory procedures from the most common manufacturers for diagnosis and repair are presented along with annotated photos and diagrams. This practical, authoritative resource is essential for those starting out in the field as well as experienced professionals in need of a detailed, on-the-job reference.
