This title examines two trends in planning: increased citizen "visioning" efforts to guide future growth in metropolitan areas, and technological innovations that illustrate what future growth patterns will look like. Topics and contributions to the books come from a series of workshops held over the past five years and led by the co-authors, who examine principles, techniques, and cases to explore how digital visualization tools can be integrated into a public process for informed planning decisions. Case studies presented in detail include the Southwest Santa Fe City/County Master Planning Initiative, New Mexico; the Near Northside Economic Revitalization Plan for Houston, Texas; the Kona Community Development Plan for the County of Hawaii; and a five-county program known as Vision 2030 developed for the Baltimore, Maryland, Regional Transportation Board.
