Robert Falcon Scott was a British naval officer and Antarctic explorer, born into a naval family in Plymouth in 1868. He commanded two expeditions to Antarctica, one in 1901-04 and the other in 1910-1912, the latter from which he and his companions did not return. He wrote The Voyage of the Discovery, an account of his first expedition, on his return to England in 1905, and the diaries and scientific findings of his second, Scott's Last Expedition, were published posthumously in 1913.
