Water, Land, and Forest Susceptibility and Sustainability, Volume 1: Geospatial Approaches & Modeling brings an interdisciplinary perspective to solving complex problems in sustainability, utilizing the latest research and technologies, and includes case studies that emphasize the applications of remote sensing, GIS, and image processing for addressing the current state and future needs to achieve sustainability. As forests, land, and water are among the most precious resources on earth, emphasizing the need to conserve them for future generations and, of course, a safe and sustainable planet. The assessment of the susceptibility of all these three precious resources must therefore be addressed to inform their sustainable management.

This 1st volume encourages adaptive activities among experts employed in interdisciplinary fields, from data mining and machine learning to environmental science by linking geospatial computational intelligence technology to forest, land and water issues.

    • Presents theoretical context and practical solutions for understanding the current knowledge and where future efforts should be directed
    • Includes case studies in each chapter demonstrating the use of geospatial technologies
    • Offers an interdisciplinary approach to addressing susceptibility and achieving sustainability

Dr. Uday Chatterjee is an Assistant Professor at Bhatter College in Dantan, Paschim Medinipur, West Bengal, India, and an Applied Geographer with a Post-Graduate in Applied Geography from Utkal University and a Doctorate in Applied Geography from Ravenshaw University in Cuttack, Odisha. He has contributed to a number of research papers that have been published in reputable national and international publications, as well as edited book volumes. He has also organized (as the convener) a Faculty Development Program on "Modern ways of teaching and advanced research methods," which was funded by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR). Urban Planning, Social and Human Geography, Applied Geomorphology, Hazards & Disasters, Environmental Issues, Land Use and Rural Development are some of his research interests. The West Bengal Pollution Control Board (WBPCB) of the Government of West Bengal, India, financed his research. He has worked as a reviewer for a number of international publications. Dr. Uday Chatterjee is currently the lead editor of the Springer Special Issue (S.I) on Urbanism, Smart Cities, and Modelling. Professor Pradhan is a globally recognized expert in geospatial analytics and artificial intelligence applications in Earth and environmental sciences. Currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), Australia, he also leads the Centre for Advanced Modelling and Geospatial Information Systems (CAMGIS). With a PhD in GIS-based modeling, Prof. Pradhan has over two decades of experience in spatial data science, remote sensing, natural hazard modeling, and environmental monitoring. He has been listed among the world's top 2% scientists by Stanford University and received numerous international awards, including from IEEE and Elsevier. A Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society (FRGS), he also serves on editorial boards of several top-tier journals. His research integrates geospatial AI and deep learning for disaster risk reduction, land use planning, and sustainability.

Suresh Kumar Kailasa, FRSC is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology (SVNIT), Surat, Gujarat, India. He obtained his M.Sc. in Chemistry (Natural Products) from Sri Krishnadevaraya University and a Ph.D. in Chemistry from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati, India. He completed postdoctoral research at Chonbuk National University, South Korea, and National Sun Yat-Sen University, Taiwan, and joined SVNIT in 2009. He received the Young Scientist Award from the Taiwan Mass Spectrometry Society in 2013 and served as a Brain Pool Scientist at Chung-Ang University, South Korea, in 2017 and 2023. He has published over 230 peer-reviewed articles and holds a Taiwan patent. His research interests include analytical chemistry, mass spectrometry, nanosensors, and functional nanomaterials. Dr. Sourav Saha PhD is a postdoctoral scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles. Dr. Saha is an early career scientist who recently completed his Ph.D. from the University of Cincinnati, USA.
