This book is designed to help readers better understand the vital role of blood in maintaining health, with a particular focus on interpreting common blood tests. It explains what blood is composed ofred and white blood cells, platelets, and plasmaand how standard tests such as full blood counts and cholesterol panels provide insight into physiological function and overall well-being. Medical terminology and blood test jargon are clearly defined, and test results are presented in a straightforward, comprehensible manner. In addition to test interpretation, the book explores how various components of bloodsuch as glucose, fats, lipids, proteins, electrolytes and hormonesreflect internal balance and respond to influences like diet, stress, exercise, and illness. It also offers evidence-based guidance on nutrition, supplements, medications and lifestyle strategies that support healthy blood composition and function. Each chapter is self-contained, allowing readers to navigate directly to topics of personal interest without needing to read the book sequentially. No prior scientific knowledge is assumed; where technical terms are necessary; they are clearly and concisely explained. Although written for a general audience, the book will also be valuable for undergraduate medical and laboratory science students, nursing students, paramedics, allied health professionals, and anyone interested in how blood tests relate to health and disease.

Dr. Jalal A. Jazayeri earned his PhD from the University of Limerick in Republic of Ireland, following a Master of Science in Biotechnology and Biological Engineering from the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. After completing his doctorate, he undertook five years of postdoctoral research in cancer cell biology at the University of Western Austalia and Royal Perth Hospital in Western Australia, where he advanced laboratorybased investigations into cancer progression and therapeutic responses.

He was subsequently appointed as an academic at Monash University in Melbourne, where he spent a decade teaching Molecular and Cell Biology and Pharmaceutical Microbiology to students in Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences programs. During his tenure at Monash, his research centered on inflammatory arthritis and gene therapy, leading to the publication of more than 35 articles in peerreviewed international journals.

Dr. Jazayeri later joined Charles Sturt University as a Senior Lecturer, contributing to a wide range of medical science disciplines while continuing his research in cancer biology. He is currently a senior academic at Central Queensland University, based at the Melbourne campus, where he teaches Genomic Pathology and Infectious Diseases in the Master of Laboratory Medicine program. His research and teaching continue to reflect his commitment to advancing biomedical science and developing the next generation of laboratory medicine professionals.
