Arvustused

"I love this new study on Women in the New Testament from Little Rock Scripture Study! The cultural background, archaeological information, and extra details like the chart of all the 'Marys' in the New Testament are wonderful! The questions at the end of each lesson are well-written and help us reflect on what weve learned. And I especially like the authors questions found throughout the commentary as they help us be 'in the moment' as we are reading and learning. I cant wait to see how others in our diocesan womens ministry respond to this study!" Leigh Tenkku Lepper, Facilitator, Womens Ministry Coalition, Diocese of Jefferson City "A holistic Christian spirituality means being attuned to the many ways women not only received but also clarified, amplified, and participated in Jesus ministry. Catherine A. Cory and the able team at Little Rock Scripture Study take us inside the lives of the women of the New Testament, using sound methods of biblical scholarship to set them in their proper social, historical, and cultural contexts. As we gather these 'gems along the path of study,' we experience anew Jesus call for radical inclusionand just how necessary it is for us to emulate it today." Michael Centore, Editor, Todays American Catholic "Conversations about the New Testament often cast women in small supporting roles, reiterating cultural assumptions about femininity as inferior or even sinful. In Women in the New Testament, theology professor Catherine A. Cory offers a refreshing, accessible, yet scholarly take on these women, inviting us to explore what the Bible actually tells us about Mary the Mother of Jesus, Mary Magdalene, the Samaritan woman, the deacon Phoebe, and more. In each section, Cory shares intriguing historical tidbits about politics, gender roles, health, narrative style, and political or ideological conflicts. These vignettes provide the reader with context for understanding the stories about these women. The book is structured around six lessons, each of which includes questions for reflection, and short prayers to be used either individually or as part of group study. This is a wonderful resource for educators, ministers, and writers, and the details Cory provides can serve as guideposts for those pursuing more information." Rebecca Bratten Weiss, digital editor, U.S. Catholic This book offers good insights, is well written and laid out.
