Whyte's mastery of watercolor is phenomenal, and there's no way to stay disengaged from her incredible depiction of the skin, hair, features, and clothing of her subjects. In this work she collects a series of portraits of people in vanishing blue-collar professions. Paintings, drawings, and sketches from her ever-present notebook are presented in an oversize volume (10x12"), along with her narration of impressions of the environment, the circumstances under which she painted, and her interactions with her subjects. Whyte grew up in Ohio but makes her home now in Johns Island, South Carolina. Annotation ©2011 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
