This document specifies the application programming interface (API) for X/Open-compliant Relational Database Management Systems. It is closely based on the International Standard for the Database Language (SQL), ISO 9075:1992, but includes some extensions to the International Standard based on current implementations. This document encompasses the features required by NIST FIPS 127-2, also known as "Transitional SQL". The document also includes the SQL Remote Database Access Specification which relies on the ISO/IEC RDA SQL standard which specifies a message format for remote communication of SQL database language statements (query and update) to a remote database.
