Mittal (Institute of Chemical and Bioengineering, Zurich) describes the kinetics of radical polymerization and emulsion polymerization, and compiles recent advances in polymerization methods by using more controlled means of polymerization, such as nitroxide mediated polymerization, atom transfer radical polymerization, and reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer. Miniemulsion polymerization is discussed in a separate chapter along with relevant controlled radical polymerization techniques. Black and white micrographs demonstrate the characterization of latexes by scanning electron, transmission electron, atomic force, and cryo-scanning electron microscopy.
