Richards, a librarian at the Philadelphia Free Library, details all films produced in the US about African Americans or with a predominantly African American cast. Each entry includes cast and credits, year of release, studio, distributor, type of film and other production details, followed by, in most cases, a brief synopsis of the film or contemporary reviews. The appendices provide film credits for over 1850 actors and actresses and a listing of film companies. This is a paperback reprint of the 1998 edition published by McFarland. Each entry includes cast and credits, year of release, studio, distributor, type of film (feature, short or documentary) and other production details. In most cases, a brief synopsis of the film or contemporary reviews of it follow. In the appendices, film credits for over 1,850 actors and actresses are provided, along with a listing of film companies.
