This book presents technical knowledge already available and identifies operational-methodological flows aimed at filling the existing incomplete and jumbled procedures through the use of parametric and virtual digital models for architectural heritage. Specifically, it proposes a digital code of practice for the conservation and management of existing architectural heritage through the aid of CityGML-Based models implemented with a Technical Decision Support System (T-DSS), as well as through expeditious VR-based approaches. It discusses the analysis of the methodological and technical principles for the development of semantic information systems for the study, modelling, cataloguing, and technical management of architectural heritage in a digital environment.
1. Towards an Integrated Digital Methodology for the Preservation of
Architectural Heritage.-
2. Knowledge-Based Management of historic built
environment through digital approaches.-
3. Ontological approaches in
systematising technical knowledge in the preservation process.-
4. The
Digital Code of Practice for Managing Historic District.-
5. Application and
validation of 3hD-DigitalCode to pilot cases.-
5. Final Perspectives on
Integrated Digital Strategies for Heritage Conservation and Management.
Dr. Margherita Lasorella is a research fellow at the Politecnico di Bari (Italy). She has specific experience in the field of virtual reality techniques for the recovery and use of the built heritage, with particular reference to innovative range-based and image-based technologies applied to survey. In details of book contents, her scientific expertise relates to multiscale digital information systems and models, focusing on the analysis, qualification, and management of architectural heritage.

Dr. Elena Cantatore is a researcher at the Politecnico di Bari (Italy). Her research activities deal with methodologies applied to the historic built environment for the assessment of its vulnerabilities, its management in risk exposure (both natural and manmade) and innovative processes in supporting their maintenance based on digital models and virtual reality. In details of book contents, she has supported the normative and scientific analysis of the diagnosis of historic buildings.

Dr. Yolanda Hernández Navarro is an assistant professor at the Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain) with over 15 years of experience in the field of cultural heritage conservation and restoration, specializing in sustainable, accessible, and inclusive development. Her work spans three key areas: research, teaching, and public engagement, focusing on the conservation of both tangible and intangible cultural heritage. In details of book contents, she has supported the historical and architectural analysis with an international perspective, enriching the understanding of conservation activities by comparing architectural features across different global contexts.

Prof. Fabio Fatiguso is a full professor at the Politecnico di Bari (Italy). His skills relate to the study, assessment, and conservation of cultural heritage and the historic built environment. These aspects are the main focus of his research activities, which range from traditional and innovative tools to collaborative methods of assessment. Specifically for the book, his scientific activity relates to building refurbishment and maintenance, with a recent focus on the development of immersive VR/AR environments and CityGML-based models for multi-level assessment and diagnosis of building characteristics and pathologies toward the conservation and management of cultural heritage.
