On-Chip Photonics: Principles, Technology and Applications reviews advances in integrated photonic devices and their demonstrated applications, including ultrafast high-power lasers on a chip, mid-infrared and overtone spectroscopies, all-optical processing on a chip, logic gates on a chip, and cryptography on a chip. The summaries in the book's chapters facilitate an understanding of the field and enable the application of optical waveguides in a variety of optical systems. The ultimate goal of this work is aimed at accelerating the transition of on-chip photonics from academia to the industry. Each chapter, where appropriate, provides an overview of the computational tools, fabrication methods, and suggestions for the realization of on-chip photonic devices.

  • Introduces advanced concepts of passive and active on-chip photonic components
  • Discusses emerging applications of on-chip photonics such in fiber optics, integrated photonics, computing, and more

Dr. Alina Karabchevsky is a full professor at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Ben-Gurion University (BGU) of the Negev and heads the Integrated Photonics Center at BGU, which explores the interaction of light and matter on a chip. She serves as Chair of the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity group, Israel section. Dr. Karabchevsky holds a PhD in electrooptics engineering. She was the recipient of the Alma Mater Presidents Award for Outstanding Woman in Science”. She gained her postdoctoral experience at the Optoelectronics Research Center at the University of Southampton, UK. Her main research interests lay in the areas of integrated photonics and microfibers, all-dielectric photonics, plasmonics, on-chip spectroscopy, and optomechanics.

Dr. Amol Choudhary is an associate professor at the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India, and heads the UltraFast Optical Communications and High-performance Integrated Photonics (UFO-CHIP) group. He was previously an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellow with the Optoelectronics Research Center at the University of Southampton, UK, and the Australian Governments Discovery Early Career Research Award (DECRA) fellow with the University of Sydney, Australia.
