Carla M.A. Pinto is Coordinating Professor at the School of Engineering, Polytechnic of Porto, Portugal. She has a PhD degree in the scientific area of Mathematics, since January 2004. She is integrated member of the Center of Mathematics of the University of Porto, where she does her main research topic, Mathematical Epidemiology. She is interested in mathematical challenges and their role in providing advice on public health policies. Dr. Pinto is trained in Nonlinear Dynamics, Bifurcation Theory. Previous research included the analysis of Central Pattern Generators for Animal and Robot Locomotion, coupled cell networks, neuron-like equations (Hodgkin-Huxley equations, Fitz-Hugh Nagumo, Morris-Lecar). Dr. Pinto has been the recipient of several scientific awards, namely Gulbenkian Award for Young Scientists in 2003, Best Paper Award (2022, 2020, etc). Since 2017 she has developed a secondary research interest devoted to Mathematics Education, having been Coordinator of Erasmus+ projects, as well as Participant. She has more than 100 publications, and h-index of 22. Clara M. Ionescu is professor at Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, at Ghent University, Belgium since October 2016, a research-member of the laboratory of Dynamical Systems and Control. She holds a master degree is Automation and Applied Informatics in 2003 from Dunarea de Jos University of Galati, Romania, and a PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from Ghent University in 2009. She was recipient of prestigious excellence scholarship for top-students going abroad from the Romanian Ministry of Research and Innovation, during her master Studies at Ghent University in 2002. She was also recipient of prestigious excellent post-doctoral scholarship of Flemish Research Foundation, of Belgium for 6 years, from 2011 - 2017.
