One goal of the federal 2009 Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act is to advance the use of health information technology by providing Medicare and Medicaid incentives to physicians and hospitals that adopt and demonstrate "e;meaningful use"e; (MU) of electronic health record (EHR) systems. This book presents a nationally representative profile of physician use of EHR systems. The book also discusses the use of EHR's in residential care communities; physician experiences with EHR systems; the use and characteristics of EHR systems among office-based physician practices; and physician adoption of EHR systems in the United States.
