This book is a critical examination of the intersection between disability rights and the law in India. This book offers a comprehensive analysis of the legal frameworks governing the rights of the differently abled in general and of the mentally challenged individuals in particular, tracing historical developments and contemporary challenges. Drawing from international conventions, Indian statutes, and case laws, the author highlights the impact of systemic barriers on equality, justice, and inclusion. Through a rigorous rights-based approach, he critiques existing policies and advocates for progressive legal reforms. Beyond legal analysis, the book underscores the socio-economic struggles of mentally challenged individuals, emphasizing the need for holistic rehabilitation, education, and empowerment. This book can be treated as essential reading for scholars, policymakers, human rights practitioners and any other individual of genuine sensitivity and interest. It is undoubtedly a vital contribution to disability law and social justice discourse, calling for an inclusive and equitable society.
