"Intentional teaching begins with focused observations and systematic documentation of children's learning and development. Focused Observations, Second Edition is filled with tools and techniques designed to help you purposefully observe children, create portfolios with rich documentation, and plan curriculum that supports every child"--

Gronlund, an early childhood consultant, and James (early childhood education, Flathead Valley Community College, Montana) offer a second edition of their book for early childhood professionals seeking to connect and document appropriate assessment and curriculum related to early learning guidelines. They provide nineteen observation practice activities and video clips on the CD-ROM. The book includes reflections and observation style activities designed to be used as an ongoing journal.
