Using plant-based colour for printmaking is a rich and inspiring practice that opens up a fascinating world of colour independent from a reliance on synthetic inks and pastes. From Plant to Print encourages artists, printmakers and anyone fascinated in natural colour to embark on this compelling journey into making their work more sustainable. Packed with practical advice and some 300 images, the book splits recipes into sections, depending on which substrate will be used, and introduces techniques for printmakers on both paper and fabric. It explains procedures and processes in detail, conveying the intricacies, complications and unexpected joy inherent in adopting this intriguing practice.

Arvustused

This essential volume has already earned its place in my workshop as a bookmarked working resource. I trust it will do likewise for any printmaker or institution seeking to expand the possibilities of printmaking, while re-engaging with a body of knowledge founded on enquiry, craftship and a commitment to sustainable printmaking practices. -- Martin Kochany, Printmaking Today * Printmaking Today * The significant depth of the authors knowledge and understanding is very evident throughout the text; making this book highly recommended for printmakers wishing to explore the use of natural dyes, or indeed anyone with an interest in natural dyeing -- Christina Chisolm, Journal of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers * Journal of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers (Journal J297). *

JACQUI SYMONS is an artist who specialises in working with plant-based colour for printmaking and other applications. Her practice focuses on exploring the incredible range of colours that can be extracted from plants and how these can be used for both works on paper and works on textiles. With an emphasis on entirely replacing synthetic colours and art materials, she is continuously researching, testing and experimenting new methods and techniques for using plant-based colour. Jacqui works with artists, organisations, universities and museums to develop knowledge, learning and a deeper understanding of the possibilities of printmaking with plant-based colour. She established Slow Lane Studio in 2019 as a centre for natural colour research in printmaking using a sustainable plant to print practice.
