This book provides interviewers, particular police investigators, everything they need to conduct effective, ethical interviews with criminal suspects.

This book provides interviewers, particularly police investigators, with everything they need to conduct effective, ethical interviews with criminal suspects. The author pulls from his training and experience to provide instruction on interviewing and interrogation, an essential area of investigations.

This book provides both the theory behind interview techniques as well as the practical application, which appeals to different learning styles. It can be read as a whole, or it can be picked up and skimmed for ideas on how to approach certain interviews. Unique to this book are the case studies. These discuss cases moving from first considerations, to strategy, to the actual interrogation monologues.

The primary audience is police investigators, but anybody conducting interviews as a regular aspect of their job duties can benefit from this book. This might include military, loss prevention, or arson investigators, to name a few.

Darrel Lambert is an active police investigator for a major metropolitan police department. He has been with the department for over 18 years, including seven as a detective. He is currently assigned to the homicide unit, but has experience with the investigation of violent crime, including the physical and sexual abuse of children. In his role as a detective, he has conducted hundreds of hours of suspect interviews in cases ranging from simple assault to murder. He stepped into a teaching role on the subject of interviewing and interrogation in 2020 and with partner Valentin De Los Santos serves as lead instructor on interview and interrogation for his department. Lambert and De Los Santos have taught at the Crimes Against Children Conference in Dallas, Texas, every year since 2022. In 2023, they co-founded Modern Interviewing Solutions (moderninterviewingsolutions.com) to teach police investigators from around the country how to conduct interviews and interrogations ethically and effectively. Lambert holds a Bachelors degree from Wesleyan University. Most importantly, he is a husband to an amazing wife and a father to two wonderful children.
