Fungi are part of a a wide ranging kingdom that can live in a diverse array of habitats. This collection of seventeen chapters written by experts in the field attempts to overview the most up-to-date information available on the substrates and ecology of fungi. The main focus of the book is the variety of substrates that fungi can colonize, including fossilized leaves, wheat, and dairy products, but in discussing the substrates, the authors also introduce specific fungal taxonomies and ecology. Also covered is the extent to which fungi deteriorate the materials they inhabit. Annotation ©2015 Ringgold, Inc., Portland, OR (protoview.com)

The book is comprised of more than a dozen chapters on fungi from different substrates including fossilized leaves. It discusses association of fungi occurring on important plants, some animals, and saprophytic substrates. Besides the taxonomic information, some ecological aspects like distribution and substrate/host preferences are discussed. The book also reviews the myxomycete.
