He worked as Professor at Indian Institute of Plantation Management, Bangalore, and switched to Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore as Professor in 2005. He has held academic assignments with the United Nations University Japan; the Wageningen University, The Netherlands, and the University of Bonn, Germany. He was an Obama - Singh Scholar in Residence at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, USA. He has also taught at St. Petersburg University in Russia.
