Samuel Taylor Coleridge and William Wordsworth's "Lyrical Ballads, with a Few Other Poems" is a compilation of their poetry. The poem is generally regarded as having started a new period in the history of poetry and is regarded as a cornerstone of the Romantic Movement in English literature. The book stood out for its creative use of common language as well as its emphasis on the lives and experiences of everyday people. It signaled a departure from the extremely artificial and polished vocabulary of earlier literary traditions and adopted a more casual, conversational tone. The writers of the anthology were not revealed until subsequent editions since they had first been published anonymously. The work was well received by critics, who hailed it for its uniqueness and its capacity to powerfully and movingly depict the spirit of ordinary life. The Romantic Movement, which stressed individuality, passion, and the beauty of nature, is said to have been founded on this book.
