In these papers from the May 2011 Third International M-Libraries Conference, held in Brisbane, Australia, international contributors consider the expectations of mobile users, the development of mobile services, and the latest devices and platforms for offering services to students and patrons through mobile technology and hand-held devices. The section on developing mobile services approaches topics such as the delivery of consumer health information and an e-reader loan service at an online university. The section on people and skills addresses issues such as staff preparedness and student engagement. Papers on technology deal with topics such as designing an effective mobile web presence and offer international cases. Illustrated with b&w screen shots, algorithm charts, and process illustrations, the book will be of interest to students and professionals in library and information science, as well as information professionals in other areas, plus policy makers, researchers, developers, publishers, and suppliers. Ally is affiliated with the Center for Distance Education, Athabasca University, Canada. Needham teaches information management at Open University's Library and Learning Resources Center, UK. The book is distributed in the US by Neal-Schuman. Annotation ©2012 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)

Arvustused

"...a seminal contribution...an essential, core contribution to Library Science reference collections." -- Midwest Book Review "...a topical guide for information professionals in all sectors. These include policy makers, researchers, developers, publishers and suppliers. Students of library and information science and newcomers to the profession will also find it an invaluable resource. The book reads easily; bibliographies appearing at the end of each chapter can prompt further reading, and a useful index concludes the book." -- Online Information Review
