This book introduces the systems approach as a powerful framework for developing practical and implementable solutions to complex problems. Drawing on the extensive professional and teaching experience of its authors, the text provides readers with both conceptual foundations and real-world insights into the role of systems engineering in guiding successful projects.

Written with accessibility in mind, the book is ideal for incoming graduate students encountering systems engineering for the first time, as well as for students with some industrial experience who may have only a limited view of the overall system development process. Through clear explanations and illustrative examples, the authors show how systems engineering integrates across evolving program phases, highlighting the diverse roles it plays from conception to implementation.

Broad in scope yet grounded in practice, this book equips readers with the perspective and tools to engage effectively with complex engineering challenges.
