"The heart of this book lies in equitable mathematics instruction. It serves as a tool for educators to upgrade their use of the popular Math Workshop model through the infusion of 1. carefully crafted Universal Design for Learning elements and 2. strategies for supporting Social-Emotional Learning competencies. The goal of the manuscript is to provide specific, immediately actionable strategies to support elementary and middle school educators in achieving a more equitable learning mathematics environment by providing tools that help them to more effectively meet the wide range of academic and social-emotional needs of all learners in their classrooms. The COVID pandemic has forever changed the educational landscape and for most teachers, the learning profiles of students are more complex than ever before. Students have varied amounts of unfinished learning in academic areas, and also are presenting with significantly disrupted social and emotional skills. As teachers struggle to meet the needs of all learners, they are met with challenging behaviors, reduced attention spans, and a wide range of readiness for grade-level standards. Now more than ever before, they feel high on urgency and short on time, meaning that they need to get the most out of everyminute"-- Provided by publisher.
