This book presents clinical findings, treatment approaches, and follow-up of some metabolic disorders and congenital metabolic diseases. The objective of this book is to explain the classification of hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), which is a worrisome topic in neonatology. Additionally, we aim to demonstrate the use of electrical activities, cerebral oxygenation and imaging, as well as traditional and current treatments. The patient group of premature infants represents a highly specialized subset within the broader field of neonatal neurology. The neurologic and ultrasonographic follow-up of premature infants from the first day of life as well as intraventricular germinal matrix hemorrhage, long-term follow-up of patients with white matter damage, and development of cerebral palsy are reviewed. Hyperbilirubinemia, a common clinical finding in routine neonatal care, is a significant concern for both term and preterm neonates at high levels. The diagnosis, neurological follow-up, and management of bilirubin-induced neonatal encephalopathy are delineated. This book addresses neonatal strokes, which are difficult to diagnose in both preterm and term infants and presents with distinct clinical presentations when recognized late and outlines the appropriate treatment and follow-up procedures. The diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of newborns with hydrocephalus, spina bifida, and traumatic brain injury are discussed in a multidisciplinary manner with neonatologists and neurosurgeons. The recent advances and developments in perinatal and neonatal healthcare are revolutionizing many approaches in the medical world. Consequently, the objective is to enhance the comprehension of neonatal neurology and facilitate the advancement of early diagnosis and treatment. The editors and authors believe that this book will prove to be a precious resource for clinicians and researchers alike, with frequent reference to it being an essential component in the management of neonatal neurological disorders, and it will prove to be of considerable benefit in clinical practice.
