The class of chemicals is widely used for such products as detergents, health and personal care, coatings and polymers, and wetting agents, but are now becoming important as well in formulating and delivering drugs and vaccines. Both traditional and new applications are considered by the studies here, many of them by researchers in pharmaceutical and other biological and medical disciplines. Their topic include extractive whole cell biotransformation in a cloud point system, applying nonionic surfactants in lignocellulosic bioethanol production, remediating sites contaminated with non-aqueous phase liquids, investigating micellization in solutions with nonionic surfactants, tricritical phenomenon and three-phase behavior in nonionic microemulsion systems, and the synthesis and applications of several series of polymerizable surfactants in emulsion polymerization.
