This book provides a clinical and methodological guide to equipment (ventilator, ventilatory modes, monitoring) and NIV techniques to avoid progression to respiratory failure during interventional and endoscopic procedures. In awake patients, the use of noninvasive technique can optimize the performance of procedures and avoid the development of respiratory failure.



The volume represents a tool to facilitate the use of NIV approach in high-risk patients to prevent or treat respiratory failure during medical and surgical procedures such as neurosurgery, thoracic, abdominal and neuropsychiatric procedures.

Kunal Panda, M.D is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, the Program Director of Critical Care Medicine Fellowship in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, USA. Dr. Panda has authored scientific papers in international medical journals as well as book chapters, serves as a reviewer for the medical journals, and has given podium presentations at international medical conferences. His research interests include mechanical circulatory support devices, ECMO, and noninvasive ventilation.



Szymon Skoczyski, M.D, PHD, Professor of The Medical University of Silesia is Head of the Department of Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis, Faculty of Medical Sciences in Zabrze, Medical University of Silesia in Katowice, Zabrze, Poland. He is a specialist in internal medicine, adult respiratory medicine and critical care medicine.  His main field of interests are: high flow nasal therapy, noninvasive mechanical ventilation and ECMO procedures in patients with respiratory failure with special interest in respiratory support in bronchofiberoscopic procedures.



Mostafa Elshazly, M.D. was Medical Director of Covid Designation hospital led and managed medical operations for a dedicated COVID-19 hospital, ensuring high-quality patient care during a critical public health crisis, oversaw the implementation of clinical protocols and resource allocation to optimize patient outcomes. Also, provide advanced medical education and training to undergraduate and postgraduate students, conduct cutting-edge research in pulmonary diseases and tuberculosis and deliver expert clinical care to patients with complex respiratory conditions. He was director of Pulmonary Hypertension unit at Kasr Alaini School of Medicine where he directed research initiatives focused on pulmonary hypertension, contributing to advancements in diagnosis and treatment, also mentored junior researchers and fostered a collaborative research environment. He also established and led the sleep research unit, conducting studies on sleep disorders and their impact on respiratory health, developed comprehensive diagnostic and treatment programs for sleep-related breathing disorders. Currently, he is chief of respiratory critical care unit at Chest Department, Cairo University hospitals, where he lead and supervise the critical care team, ensuring optimal management of patients with severe respiratory failure and develop and implement protocols for respiratory critical care.
