The present text, an expanded edition of the successful Motor Vehicle Dynamics: Modeling and Simulation (by Giancarlo Genta), started as a revised and expanded version of a collections of notes of the lectures of Motor Vehicle Mechanics to the students of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at the Politecnico (Technical University) of Torino, Italy. The resulting textbook originated from the aim to collect the foundations of the discipline and the more recent developments in a single text; which, being published mainly in journals and proceedings, are not readily available to students and technicians working in industry.Road Vehicle Dynamics supplies the reader with both the theoretical background of the subject and the know-how needed to perform numerical simulations. It is structured in three parts: it begins with a historical overview of road vehicles; then deals with the forces exchanged between the vehicle and the road, and the vehicle and the air; and finally, deals with the dynamic behavior of the vehicle in normal driving conditions with some extensions towards conditions encountered in high-speed racing. Coverage of contemporary automatic controls is included in this edition.
