A young widow’s triumph over tragedy.

Amy King had a sinking feeling as she reached for her ringing phone one November morning. With a single sentence, loss split her life into a before and after.

“Mrs. King, your husband’s been in an accident.”

There was before—raising a family and working in agriculture with her high school sweetheart—and after. At the age of twenty-seven, Amy was left a widow with a one-year-old-daughter to raise. Suddenly, the life she planned to share was reduced to grieving what was left behind.

Miraculously, what followed was a journey of triumph over tragedy, and dedication over despair. With the help of friends, family, and faith, Amy lifted herself from the depths of hopelessness to forge a new life while honoring her first love who helped her build the old one.

In Saying It Out Loud, Amy unflinchingly bares her soul in excruciating, heart-wrenching detail as she fights depression and struggles to protect her toddler from the fallout of loss. One year after the accident that claimed her husband’s life, she finds a strength she never knew she had as sorrow gives way to recovery and hope, leaving Amy to realize that grief and joy can coexist.

Saying It Out Loud is a true story of resilience, renewal, and reconciliation for those who have found a new identity in the aftermath of tragedy and those who are still searching for it.
Amy King was raised in Clarke County, Virginia. She attended Virginia Tech with her high school sweetheart, Andy King, where they studied and pursued careers in Agribusiness Management. In honor of her late husband, Amy created the Andy King Memorial Foundation, which sponsors an annual 5K fundraising event that supports students pursing agriculture studies in Virginia. Amy is currently raising her daughter in Fort Mill, South Carolina, and is living for her husbands legacy.
