Because of the quantity of available material, the three editors (Florian Jentsch, Michael Curtis, and Eduardo Salas--all affiliated with the U. of Central Florida) had to be selective in assembling this collection of previously published articles. Rather than simply choosing those most cited by peers, they decided to include a mix of classic essays, theoretically important works, and recent writings (especially pertaining to aviation training). They provide an introductory essay for 25 pieces, which address various aspects of using simulation for training and evaluation, simulation fidelity, physiological responses and simulation sickness, and simulation beyond aviation (e.g. teamwork skills in health care, motivation in education). Selections are from books and from periodicals such as Simulation and Gaming, Theoretical Issues in Ergonomics Science, and International Journal of Aviation Psychology.
