Tissue engineering combines the use of cells, engineering and materials methods, and suitable biochemical and physio-chemical factors to improve or replace biological functions. This book presents new research in the field by international contributors. Some specific areas of research discussed include peripheral nerve tissue engineering, collagen biomaterials for cardiac tissue engineering applications, design of biomimetic glycopolymers for liver tissue engineering, and the role of scaffold in tissue engineering. Other areas examined include in vivo bone tissue engineering, gellan/gelatin-based biomaterials for tissue engineering, alternative methods in cardiovascular tissue engineering, and tissue engineering using adipose tissue-derived adult stem cells for skeletal muscle repair.
