This book provides the analytical tools to characterize nonlinear distorted multicarrier signals and optimal/sub-optimal receivers employed in high data rate communication systems.

This book provides the analytical tools to characterize nonlinear distorted multicarrier signals and optimal/sub-optimal receivers employed in high data rate communication systems.

Unified Theoretical Analysis of Nonlinear Multicarrier Schemes introduces new optimal and sub-optimal receivers for nonlinear distorted signals that can use nonlinear distortion to improve performance when compared with common receivers. It addresses the analysis of nonlinear systems with stochastic inputs and establishes new receivers designs for multi-carrier communication systems with nonlinearities. The authors also include the characterization and definition of optimum and sub-optimum receivers for nonlinear distorted signals that may use the nonlinear distortion to improve receiver performance over the existing ones. The book also includes a set of applications where the analytical unified method for characterization of nonlinear distortion can be applied. The two final chapters of the book include systems like MIMO OFDM and the extension to optical systems. These techniques are the base of 5G, Wi-fi and future 6G mobile networks.

The book will be a valuable resource for design engineers, industrial engineers, applications engineers and researchers working on multi-carrier systems, power amplifiers modelling and design.

Paulo Montezuma received the Ph.D. degree from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia -Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Portugal. Currently he is professor at FCT-UNL. Since 2001 he is researcher at UNINOVA and in 2013 he joined Instituto de Telecomunicações. He has been actively involved in several international research projects in the wireless communications area. His main research activities are on transmitter design, coding and receiver design, namely for MIMO systems, OFDM and SC-FDE modulations.

João Guerreiro is currently an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Science and Technology (FCT) and researcher at CTS/UNINOVA, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa (UNL). He is also a researcher with the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR), in Lisbon, Portugal. His research interests include sensor-based SLAM, sensor-based control of helicopters relative to infrastructures, nonlinear MPC for rotorcraft, laser automatic calibration, and dynamic modeling and simulation.

Rui Dinis received the Ph.D. degree from Instituto Superior Técnico, Portugal. From 2001 to 2008 he was a Professor at IST. Currently he is an associated professor at FCT-UNL. Since 2009 he is a researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicações. He has been involved in several international research projects in the broadband wireless communications area. His main research activities are on modulation and transmitter design, nonlinear effects on digital communications and receiver design, with emphasis on MIMO systems, OFDM and SC-FDE.
