Uroradiology is one of the radiology subspecialties with growing importance due to increase of patient population and growing dependence of practice on imaging. This image-oriented reference is designed to be of value in clinical practice and covers all aspects of the imaging of urologic diseases. Wealth illustrations obtained with the relevant imaging modalities in both common and uncommon conditions will serve as an excellent aid to differential diagnosis and as a user-friendly review tool for certification or recertification in radiology.

Dr. Kim received his M.D. in 1979 and began his academic career as an instructor of radiology at Seoul National University (SNU) in 1987. He spent one year as a visiting scholar at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania before advancing through the academic ranks to become Professor of Radiology, Professor of Urology, and Associate Dean of SNU (20022004). He later served as Chair of the Department of Radiology (20082010) and Vice President of SNUH (20102013).

He has also held leadership roles in numerous Korean and international imaging societies, serving as President of the Korean Society of Ultrasound in Medicine (KSUM, 20072010), the Korean Society of Urogenital Radiology (KSUR, 20082009), the Asian Federation of Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (AFSUMB, 20102012), the Asian Society of Abdominal Radiology (20092011), the Korean Society of Radiology (KSR, 20152018), and the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB, 20192021). In recognition of his contributions, Dr. Kim has been honored as an honorary member or fellow by many international imaging societies, including the European Society of Radiology, the American College of Radiology, and the Radiological Society of North America.

Dr. Kims subspecialty is urogenital imaging and intervention. He has authored 406 scientific publications and 24 monographs, including Radiology Illustrated: Uroradiology and Radiology Illustrated: Gynecologic Imaging.

In accordance with the mandatory retirement policy at SNUH, Dr. Kim retired from SNU and SNUH in 2019. Since then, he has continued to practice, running a specialized urogenital imaging clinic within a nephrology hospital. His clinical work focuses on kidney ultrasound and expert consultation for urogenital CT and MRI. He also developed an educational website for radiologists (www.k-radiology.com), designed to support those less experienced in urogenital radiology.

Currently, Dr. Kims main research and clinical interest is nutcracker syndromea condition widely regarded as rare but, in fact, far more common than generally recognized.
