This book serves as a guide to vegetable breeding principles covering classical methods, modern biotechnology, hybridization techniques, and crop improvement strategies for developing resilient varieties.

This comprehensive guide examines vegetable breeding principles and applications covering classical methods and modern biotechnological advances. The work explores molecular techniques, DUS testing procedures, and breeding strategies for major vegetable families and also includes:

  • Comprehensive examination of vegetable breeding principles covering classical methods and modern biotechnological advances for crop improvement and genetic enhancement
  • Detailed analysis of selection procedures, hybridization techniques, and breeding methodologies for developing high-yielding and stress-resistant vegetable varieties
  • Investigation of heterosis breeding mechanisms and male sterility systems for producing vigorous hybrid varieties with enhanced productivity and adaptability
  • Study of mutation and polyploidy breeding techniques for generating genetic variation and introducing novel traits in vegetable crops
  • Analysis of ideotype breeding concepts and molecular techniques for designing crop varieties suited to specific environmental conditions and agricultural practices

Arvustused

"This Book offers a well-organized and application-oriented treatment of vegetable breeding, linking fundamental genetic concepts with practical strategies used in crop improvement programmes. The authors present the subject in a student-friendly manner while keeping the discussion aligned with present-day demands such as climate resilience, stable yields, improved quality and resistance to biotic and abiotic stresses.

A major strength of the book is its systematic coverage of breeding objectives and methods across key vegetable crops. With its balanced blend of principles and field relevance, it is a commendable resource for strengthening the scientific and practical understanding of vegetable improvement."

Dr. Shakuli Saxena, Teerthanker Mahaveer University, India.
