Fibroblast growth factors (FGFs) are secreted protein ligands that act in a paracrine or endocrine fashion to carry out their pleiotropic functions in development, tissue homeostasis and metabolism. Especially in recent years, more and more attention has been paid to this super family. In the past 30 years, Prof. Xiaokun Li’s research team has been focused on the field of basic mechanism and bioengineering of FGFs in China. This book is the second version which collected research results of Li’s team from 2013 to 2018. All these 9 chapters spans reviews of FGFs, injury repair and regeneration, metabolism, structure and modification, signaling pathway and pharmacology, pharmaceutics and new materials, bioreactor and engineering as well as FGF/FGFR inhibitors and others. This work should be a helper primer to scientists and particularly young students entering the FGFs field with their eye toward basic research and application.

The book contains nine chapters, systematically introducing readers to FGF, in the fields of injury repair and regeneration, endocrinology and metabolism, structure and modification, pharmaceutics, pharmacology, FGF/FGFR inhibitor, engineering and new drug development.

  • Since the publication of the first edition of this book, Professor Li and his team have expanded their research considerably and this is reflected in the second edition, which contains approximately 90% new material
  • The book contains information on “breakthrough discoveries which have been made since publication of the first edition
  • Introduces detailed research methods and technologies of FGFs, so it can be used as a “toolbox by the user
  • Is comprehensive and systematic: providing all-round view of FGF, including basic research and industry application

Xiaokun Li is Professor at Wenzhou Medical University, and has been vice director and associate professor at the Bioengineering Institute at Jinan University, China. He was among the first to study FGFs in China, and leads the largest dedicated research group in the world on the subject. In the past 20 years he has had new drugs and products approved by China SFDA. He has published 183 papers in leading international journals, and is the chair of the International Chinese FGF Association. He holds a PhD from Sun-Yat sen Medical University, and a degree in medical science from Norman Bethune Medical University in China.
