This book explains both the theory and practice of e-Portfolio pedagogy and assessment in second and foreign language classroom contexts. The author addresses how e-Portfolios can help instructors make the most of the challenges and opportunities by the continuation of online and blended classrooms in post-pandemic education, and how students might be encouraged to capitalise on their social media literacy to fully engage with e-Portfolios. In addition to providing new insights for scholars of language pedagogy, the book equips language teachers with the practical knowledge and skills they need to use the e-Portfolio approach in their classrooms. It offers a balance between theory, research and the practice of an e-Portfolio approach, which will inform effective second language instruction and assessment as well as enhance key stakeholders’ language assessment literacy.

Arvustused

Throughout his career, Ricky Lam has focused on portfolio-based assessment. This book encompasses his vast body of research, building the case for effectively using e-portfolios in the language classroom. Lams commentary on e-Portfolio tools arms teachers with information they can use to make decisions about which e-Portfolio tool to adopt for their students, and his long championing of the importance of formative assessment shines through every page. * Deborah Crusan, Wright State University, USA * Ricky Lam offers readers a much-needed and comprehensive overview of the development of electronic portfolios, addressing key questions relating to the types and mediums of e-Portfolios. His focus on the role of e-Portfolios in education makes this book an inalienable resource for researchers and practitioners alike. I applaud Dr Lam for such a fine work. * Lawrence Jun Zhang, University of Auckland, New Zealand * Based on his decades of solid research and extensive practice as a veteran teacher educator, Dr Lam provides readers with a comprehensive guide of e-Portfolio pedagogy and assessment in language education. Concisely written, this book successfully relates e-Portfolio theory and research to real-world practices with plenty of concrete examples, tools and insightful advice, making it a valuable resource for researchers and educators, as well as graduate students in Applied Linguistics. * Qin Xie, Education University of Hong Kong *
